An update from Lights On! (posted on UMPD News on 07/22/2025):
We are suspending all Lights On! program operations effective immediately.
For nearly a decade, Lights On! has worked to build trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve by replacing equipment violation tickets with free repair vouchers. This program has helped low-income drivers stay on the road legally and safely—and changed thousands of lives.
Unfortunately, the financial model that has supported Lights On! is no longer sustainable. This difficult decision to pause allows our board the opportunity to evaluate what’s needed to continue this important work in a financially responsible way.
We remain committed to honoring repairs and reimbursements in accordance with the timelines outlined below.
We are deeply grateful to our law enforcement partners, auto repair centers, donors, and community members who have made this program a national success story. We are hopeful that with the right model in place, Lights On! can return stronger than ever.
