This week marks National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, and I want to take a moment to recognize and thank the dedicated professionals who serve as the critical link between our community and our officers.
Our Police Communications Operators (PCOs) are the steady voices on the other end of every call—often meeting people on some of the most difficult days of their lives. With professionalism, compassion, and precision, they manage emergency and non-emergency calls, coordinate responses, support our officers in the field, and ensure that help is delivered quickly and effectively. Their ability to remain calm under pressure while handling multiple responsibilities simultaneously is nothing short of remarkable.
Behind every dispatched call and every coordinated response is a telecommunicator working tirelessly, often without recognition, to keep both our community and our officers safe. They are problem-solvers, lifelines, and trusted partners who play an essential role in every successful outcome we achieve.
Their work is not always seen, but it is always felt.
In 2025, our PCOs received and handled or assigned 300,760 calls for service – that is 60,000 more calls than the previous year.
To our PCOs: thank you for your unwavering commitment, your resilience, and your professionalism. You represent the very best of our department, and your contributions do not go unnoticed.
Please join me in expressing appreciation for our telecommunicators this week and every week. We are proud to serve alongside you.
Stay safe,
Chief David B. Mitchell
