On December 4, 2024, at approximately 12:51 p.m., an armed carjacking was reported the University of Maryland Police Department that occurred by the Manokin Building, which is located at 5801 University Research Court, by River Road. This prompted a series of UMD text alerts to be sent to our university community.
After conducting additional interviews with the victim back at the Pocomoke Building, our investigators learned that the incident that was initially reported to us as an armed carjacking was actually a lawful repossession of the vehicle. We contacted the dealership that owns the vehicle and confirmed they took repossession of their vehicle. After an emergency video review of the cameras in the area, we have verified that no crime occurred and there was no weapon involved.
This incident is closed out as unfounded, as a crime did not occur.
