The University of Maryland Police Department (UMPD) family is mourning the loss of Security Operations Center (SOC) Supervisor, David “Dave” Richardson. He passed away unexpectedly as a result of a sudden medical emergency on June 30, 2026.
Dave began his career in SOC in 2008, where he started as an SOC Monitor. During his time at UMPD he became a Police Communications Operator in our Emergency Communications Center (ECC) and was responsible for answering emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching patrol units to calls for service, and more. Dave then returned to SOC and later became a supervisor.
A mentor to SOC team members, Dave was a dedicated professional and a trusted teammate whose kindness, commitment, and quiet presence positively impacted everyone who had the opportunity to work with him.
