Criminal Summons Issued in La Plata Hall Hate Bias Incident that Occurred on April 29, 2023

College Park, MD – The University of Maryland Police Department (UMPD), Criminal Investigations Unit has identified and charged two men in connection with the hate bias incident that occurred inside La Plata Hall on April 29, 2023.

On February 8, 2024, our detective applied for charges and a criminal summons was issued for Hayden Pritchard and Sergio Delgado.

Hayden Pritchard was charged with one count of CR 10-305 (1) Race/Relig Prop Damage: Inst and one count of CR 6-402 Trespass – Posted Property.

Sergio Delgado was charged with one count of CR 6-402 Trespass – Posted Property

On April 29, 2023, at approximately 9:18 a.m., officers responded to La Plata Hall for a hate bias incident. Resident Life staff found racial slurs against the Black community inside the residence hall on the eighth floor. At approximately 1:41 p.m., that same day, officers returned to La Plata Hall for additional racial slurs that were found on the eighth and ninth floor.

Since receiving the initial reports, our detectives worked diligently on this investigation by reviewing video footage, following up on leads, and more. Because of their continuous investigation, we were able to identify the suspects involved and bring charges.
